New Family Space and MIKI HOUSE Special Exhibition Opened from April 21

As a new initiative to bring smiles to children, MIKI SHOKO Co., Ltd. (Yao City, Osaka; President: Koichi Kimura, hereinafter “MIKI HOUSE”), the company behind the baby and children’s apparel brand “MIKI HOUSE” has begun its support for the Tokyo National Museum.

A dedicated “Family Space” where visitors with children can rest comfortably, along with the “MIKI HOUSE Special Exhibition” within the space, was opened on April 21, 2026, on the first floor of the Heiseikan building at the Tokyo National Museum. Prior to the opening, a ceremony was held on April 20, 2026.

At the opening ceremony, Makoto Fujiwara, Director of the Tokyo National Museum (left), and Koichi Kimura, President of MIKI HOUSE (right), cut the ceremonial ribbon.

The opening ceremony was attended by many media representatives from various industries.

Background of the Partnership

This partnership was born from MIKI HOUSE’s deep alignment with the Tokyo National Museum’s vision of “creating a place where children and their guardians can feel safe and comfortable visiting.” Through this initiative, MIKI HOUSE aims to support families with young children in visiting the museum with ease and peace of mind, while offering children the opportunity to engage with authentic cultural and historical treasures, nurturing their natural curiosity and sensitivity.

Message from Makoto Fujiwara, Director of the Tokyo National Museum

“Our museum has announced the ‘Tokyo National Museum 2038 Vision,’ aiming to become a world-leading museum. This vision sets forth the goal of becoming ‘a museum that everyone wants to visit,’ regardless of age, disability, or nationality. We particularly wish to strengthen our efforts for children, who will shape the future, and this ‘Family Space’ represents the first step in that direction. In establishing the Family Space, we have received comprehensive support from MIKI HOUSE, starting from the design stage. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all those involved for their generous cooperation.”

Message from Koichi Kimura, President of MIKI HOUSE

“Having seen this bright and open space come to life, I sincerely hope that it will become a place filled with children’s wonder and discovery, as well as the smiles of families. At the historic Tokyo National Museum, we look forward to children engaging with remarkable exhibits and experiencing authentic cultural heritage together with their families — experiences that I believe will serve as seeds for the rich sensibilities of the children who will lead the future.”

Features of the Family Space

The Family Space is a calm, quiet area shielded from the view of general visitors, designed as a resting area where parents and children can relax together. It is equipped with picture books, plush toys and more, allowing families with young children to spend time at ease.

With its warm, wood-toned design, the space also features the Tokyo National Museum’s characters “Tohaku-kun” and “Yurinoki-chan,” as well as MIKI HOUSE’s beloved characters “Pucchi” and “Usako,” creating a welcoming atmosphere where children can enjoy their time comfortably.

Picture Book Corner

Approximately 200 books are available, including the “Kenji Miyazawa Picture Book Series” (published by MIKI HOUSE).

Wall Toys

Four types of fun wall-mounted toys are provided.

MIKI HOUSE Special Exhibition

Within the venue housing the Family Space, a dedicated MIKI HOUSE Special Exhibition area has been established.

Centered around products from the premium “MIKI HOUSE GOLDLABEL” collection, which combines world-class materials with exceptional Japanese craftsmanship, the exhibition also features a curated selection of products including ceremonial “Okuizome” tableware and “Kabuto” (helmets) crafted using “Wajima-nuri,” a traditional lacquer technique from Ishikawa Prefecture, as well as baby shoes that reflect the expertise of highly skilled artisans. This exhibition allows visitors from around the world to experience the quality of Made-in-Japan craftmanship up close.

Additionally, a monitor presents videos in multiple languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean), introducing the craftsmanship and the warmth of traditional artisanal techniques.

This exhibition is designed so that children and families visiting the museum to can experience “authenticity” firsthand and take pride in Japanese-made quality. The exhibits are scheduled to be updated several times a year, so we warmly invite you to stop by during your visit to the museum.

Previous Collaboration with Tokyo National Museum

At the “Playground! ☺ Tokyo National Museum” event held in 2026 (Friday, January 16 – Sunday, March 1), the first 3,000 guardians visiting with preschool-aged children received a MIKI HOUSE mini towel. This initiative served as a catalyst for the establishment of the new Family Space.

MIKI HOUSE goes beyond the apparel business and is engaged in a wide range of fields, including publishing, education, collaborations with local governments and hotels, and support for sports. Guided by our vision of “bringing smiles to the everyday lives of children and families,” we will continue to pursue initiatives across various fields to support the happiness of children.
