What could possibly unite a karate demonstration, a children’s fashion house and a beautiful hotel in the heart of Paris? At first glance, they may seem worlds apart. Yet all three are bound by the same uncompromising pursuit of excellence: a devotion to detail, a deep respect for skills and knowledge refined over generations, and an enduring passion for preserving them, bringing them to life and passing them on to the future.

This year, MIKI HOUSE’s proud tradition of Japanese craftsmanship met the timeless elegance of Le Meurice. Bringing together their respective heritage and exacting standards, they created a special event for our valued clients, centred on the art of karate kata. Every movement in kata embodies precision honed to its finest degree, complete command of the body and the quiet strength that comes from absolute concentration. It is a form in which all these qualities become one, captivating those who witness it while inspiring, in children especially, a new sense of admiration and the courage to take on a challenge. Care for the smallest detail, the perseverance to continue without giving up, and respect for others: these values extend far beyond the world of sport.

MIKI HOUSE believes that they can become an invaluable source of strength as children grow, discover their abilities and learn to find their own way. In the magnificent salons of Le Meurice, many of the values MIKI HOUSE has long cherished came together under one roof: the bonds we have built with our clients and their families; our longstanding support for athletes, including the former Japanese national karate team member Kiyō Shimizu; and the culture, artistry and craftsmanship unique to Japan. The presence of His Excellency Mr. Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to France, lent further distinction to this memorable occasion.

Guests were also introduced to a Gold Label samue created using the traditional technique of “mud dyeing”, offering them a glimpse of the beauty of Japanese aesthetics and the spirit of handcraftsmanship that lies at the heart of MIKI HOUSE.

Of course, the children were the true stars of the day. Karate champion Kiyou Shimizu took to the stage for a powerful demonstration. The children watched her precise, finely honed movements with complete concentration, as her performance transformed the atmosphere in the room. Then came the eagerly awaited karate workshop.

Dressed in MIKI HOUSE clothing designed to allow freedom of movement, the children threw themselves into the activities and wholeheartedly enjoyed this exciting new experience. The event concluded with a spectacular buffet by Cédric Grolet, bringing a fitting flourish to a truly special day. For more than a century and a half, France has shown a deep fascination with Japanese culture and aesthetics.

Through Japonisme, it has fostered a rich environment in which different artistic traditions and sensibilities could meet, inspire one another and find new forms of expression. Against this historical backdrop, it felt especially meaningful to hold an event in France celebrating Japanese culture and craftsmanship: an invitation to remain open to wonder and inspiration, to find the courage to try something new, and to understand that even the greatest achievements begin with a series of small, carefully taken steps.
